Trevor

Bacon.

That was the first thing that hit me as I woke up the next morning, swimming to the surface from the watery pool of sleep and floating in a room awash in green and gold glimmers and birdsong. The second thing I noticed was how relaxed I felt, how calm. I rolled over onto my side and checked the time. 8 o’clock in the morning. Josh must have gotten up early if he—

And then I remembered last night and I didn’t feel calm at all.

The evening came back to me in flashes of memory, bombarding all my senses. Josh in bed with me, his green eyes dancing as he laughed. Josh underneath me, his smooth skin pressed up against mine. The way he smelled, the way he tasted, tangy and sweet, the soft whine he’d made when he’d come, breath heaving in his chest.

Fuck. So that… happened. And now I had to figure out what to do about it.

I pushed myself up in bed and caught sight of Mustard, already sitting by the bedroom door, panting expectantly.

“So you smelled the bacon too, huh?” I said, smiling at her.

Cursing past-Trevor, I hauled myself out of bed and pulled on fresh clothes. It wasn’t like I could avoid Josh, so I might as well get down there and talk to him. My stomach twisted when I thought about how I was going to have to let him down gently. I’d told him I didn’t want things to go anywhere between the two of us and then I’d taken him to bed. Talk about sending mixed messages. Past-Trevor only thought with his dick, apparently.

Josh was bent over, peering into the oven, when I made it to the kitchen and now that I was downstairs, it smelled of bacon but also coffee and, apparently, muffins. My stomach flip-flopped at the sight of him but I reminded myself sternly that I’d done enough flip-flopping already and I was not supposed to be making things worse.

Still when Josh looked over his shoulder and smiled at me, his eyes sparkling, a wave of… something… knocked into me so hard it almost hurt. Fuck, I definitely needed to stop this before it got out of hand. Well, more out of hand than it already was.

“Hey!” Josh said brightly. “I hope you’re hungry. I came down early to try to sort out more of the cabinets and I got distracted and made muffins. I’m pretty sure the muffin tins are antiques at this point. Maybe I should take them in and get them priced. Don’t worry though, pretty sure they won’t give you lead poisoning or anything, because we used them all the time when I was a kid.”

“I could eat,” I said slowly, trying to get my bearings in the face of all of Josh’s… Joshness.

“Good.” Josh grinned. “Otherwise I’d have to find enough self-control not to just eat them all myself and well, self-control’s never been one of my strong points.”

Me neither, I thought bitterly. It used to be.
